We all know about Forbes magazine which is basically popular among us for its various lists and rankings which it publishes annually in various categories; like World’s Most Powerful, Most Powerful Women, Forbes 30 under 30, The Billionaires List and many more. It is an American Business Magazine owned by Integrated Whale Media Investments and the Forbes family.

In this topic we will discuss about some women from our country who have been listed in this magazine in various categories in recent times. Recently Forbes India has released 30 Under 30 for 2021 titled ‘Forbes India 30 Under 30: Meet the Class of 2021’. In this list

Shefali Vijaywargiya

In advertising, marketing and media Shefali Vijaywargiya and Niharika Kapoor. Shefali Vijaywargiya joined Amul as an Area sales manager and her first great task was to launch diced cheese in Gujarat. This task was not easy because this segment was dominated by competitors who had a strong distribution network. Her partner doesn’t took her seriously because of being a new comer and a woman. By organising meeting with different stakeholders, launching conferences, extensive sampling to demonstrate quality of the product and leading multiple round of negotiations to build a close relationship with institutional buyers. She grabbed 30 percent market in just two months. She has been tasked with Amul Kool since 2017. During last summer she faced obstacles in fixing distribution and logistics due to pandemic. The distribution channel of Kool was shutdown due to lockdown. She reached to Amul milk distributors who were able to reach every nook and corner of the market and added her beverage in their product portfolio. Kool rolled out 23 products within last eight months including eight immunity boosting drinks.

In the field of Art Biraaj Dodiya has been listed. Both of her parents art artists and their friends were also artists or related to the creative world. She had studied art at the School of Art Institute of Chicago and the New York University. Her training was focused on painting, print-making and photography but she has been involved more in drawing and sculpture installation art. She had her debut last march at Kolkata’s Experimenter Gallery, where her works included mostly paintings and some sculptural works such as ramps.

They are co-founder of Nexus Power where they produce biodegradable batteries which are made from crop residues. They procure crop residue and manufactures rechargeable battery cells out of it. There batteries are lithium ion free, hence eco-friendly and sustainable. Their innovation also helps farmers to have additional income by selling crop remains. There aim is to produce efficient batteries for electric vehicles industry which takes less time for charging. There battery takes 50 minutes to charge fully and they aims to bring it down to 25 to 30 minutes. Under TIDE programme they received a grant of ₹4 lakh from Government of India. The twin sisters have solved many issues related to batteries like availability of eco-friendly, efficient and localised battery solutions; and their company expects to go commercial by 2022.

Niyati Maninkurve

In the field of Digital Content Creators Niyati Mavinkurve with her husband Abhiraj Rajadhyaksha have been listed. The couple had taken a break from their regular jobs to explore the country. On YouTube they are known as Abhi and Niyu. Within a year there subscribers on YouTube reached over 1.16 million and 1.5 million followers on Instagram. Niyati was a chartered accountant and Abhiraj an advertising video producer. Niyati became a freelance content writer because the couple wanted a more creative autonomy. The couple believes that through their content they can find and encourage social good in India. ‘100 reasons to love India’ is their breakout video that led to the beginning of their content creation career. Most of their videos have more than a million views. Their content have also been praised by Sonam Wangchuk; an engineer, innovator and education reformist.

Poulomi Pavini Shukla

In the field of education a remarkable work has been done by Poulomi Pavini Shukla for the orphans. She is a lawyer in Supreme Court and an author. She had studied every piece of official document since India’s independence and found that the government don’t have an official figure for the number of orphans in India; just a casual reference of 2 crore orphans are made in official publication of Ministry of Women and Child Development. In 2015 she had co-authored a book titled ‘Weakest on Earth- Orphans of India’. In 2018 she had filled a public interest litigation for reservations of orphan children. After this National Commission for Backward Classes recommended that orphans to be considered as part of OBC’s for educational and job opportunities. Following this 11 states and union territories have made changes by extending education reservations to orphans, increasing allocation of budget and providing financial aid. She is now working towards getting orphans included under various government education schemes, grants and scholarships; so that they can have access to tuition support, coaching for competitive exams, fellowships, hostel facilities, loans and cash incentives by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

UNICEF invested $1,00,000 in this company in 2018 to ensure smooth delivery of vaccines for the children in need. UNICEF declared them as their preferred vendor to enable global sale. They have scaled up their solution in global supply chain by being a part of World Economic Forum Covid-19 platform. Telangana government has asked VaccineLedger for help in the vaccine distribution programme.

In the field of industry and manufacturing Vaishali Gupta along with her friends Mohit Jain and Saurabh Singhal have been listed. The idea of founding a brand with caffeine infused product, mCaffeine had came in the mind of Tarun Sharma after researching caffeine and its related products. He with his friends Vaishali Gupta, Lachhwani, Mohit Jain and Saurabh Singhal founded mCaffeine in January, 2016. It is India’s first hair and skin care brand with caffeine infused products. Tarun Sharma is CEO, Lachhwani is the head of research and development, Vaishali looks after brand and marketing.

Maalavika Manoj

In the field of music Maalavika Manoj (Mali) is listed. She is a singer, songwriter and composer; and is a well known face in English music circuit in India. She is a graduate in BBA and worked as a podcast producer before beginning her career in music. She had started writing and composing songs since she was 16. She moved from Mumbai to Chennai in 2015 for music. She had worked with AR Rahman, Dhanush and Sapta. Her song ‘Mundane’ has ranked number 1 in the Euro Indie Music Chart.

Neelam Jain

In the list of NGO and social entrepreneurship Neelam Jain with her partner Nishant Agarwal have been listed for making education and career accessible to transgender community of India. She had quit her job at Goldman Sachs and founded PeriFerry in 2015 with Nishant. She had realised the socioeconomic issues of transgender community is different from the rest of LGBTQ+ community because rest can find education and job but person from transgender community are thrown from their house at a very young age and don’t get access to education and jobs, and if they get they are regularly teased. They have helped place over 170 transgender people and sensitised more than 19000 corporate employees till now. Their clients include ANZ, ThoughtWorks, Walmart Global Tech, Accenture and Vodafone. Services for the community are free and corporates are charged. They have seen a revenue growth of 88.5 percent of revenue growth from 2017-18 to 2019-20.

Priyanka Das Rajkakati

In the field of science Priyanka Das Rajkakati has been listed. She has been selected to send her art to the moon as part of the International Moon Gallery Project via a Lunar Lander Mission. She has told that she had made to the National Institute of Design and then she felt that she needed to do science but while studying science her artistic side kept coming up. Her art comprises of two objects in a 1 centimetre cube box. Her work is named ‘Bhedadipika- an illustration of duality’ inspired by veda. She has been also chosen as an ‘Analogue Astronaut’ and commander-in-training, with a team of scientists studying the effect of being constrained together in a small space for a long time; a vital factor for the human space exploration.

Previous year four Indian women had been listed in Forbes list of World’s list of 100 Most Powerful Women; Niramala Sitharaman, Roshni Nadar Malhotra, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw and Renuka Jagtiani. Every year women from India make their place in almost every list of Forbes whether in India or World’s list. This clearly shows that now women from our nation are enough capable to compete at the world level and are not less in any way from anyone. All they need is support, encouragement, independence and opportunity.
